St. Bonaventure Access Improvement Project
Town of Allegany
Fisher Associates undertook a Phase IA and IB Cultural Resource and Architectural investigation for the Town of Allegany and St. Bonaventure University. The project includes approximately one mile of trail connecting the campus to the Allegheny River Trail, campus roadway improvements and the construction of a new public safety building. The St. Bonaventure University Campus is National Register eligible and includes 75 standing buildings and map-documented structures. In addition to the St. Bonaventure Campus, the project area included the world’s largest Oil Tank Farm of that period (c. 1880) for Standard Oil, parent company of Mobil. Phase IB excavations identified a Middle Woodland period prehistoric campsite and tool-making debris. Fisher was able to create trail design alternatives to avoid impacts to these sites while completing the trail connection to the Allegheny River Trail. The won of Allegany and St. Bonaventure received a No-Adverse-Effect determination without the need for further archaeological work.
