Canisius College Parking Garage Rehabilitation
City of Buffalo

Fisher Associates performed an in-depth inspection and condition survey of the elevated decks and ramps of the existing 145,000 square foot, 2 story parking garage. The goal was to determine the extent of repairs needed to re-open the third parking level to traffic and restore and modify the second level for use by NFTA commuters at a nearby subway station.
The inspection utilized impact echo non-destructive testing and concrete cores to determine the condition of the decks and concrete quality and robotic survey instrumentation to record deterioration and quantify repairs for a detailed cost estimate. The construction will be performed in two stages to take advantage of available NFTA funds for the commuter improvements and to help the College prepare a budget for the balance of the work. Fisher Associates was able to save the College over $20 million by designing a rehabilitation which provides an added 15 years of useable life over the cost of replacement of the decks and framing. The project included preparation of plans and repair details for deck rehabilitation, addition of handicap accessible spaces and walkways, and replacement of drainage scuppers.
