SUNY Upstate Medical Center, West Parking Garage

Fisher Associates was retained to provide site engineering services for the construction of a new 5-story parking garage structure to service the Upstate Medical University located in downtown Syracuse. The project consisted of the demolition of an existing 2-story parking garage to make way for the new structure in the same approximate location. We provided the site utility design to service the new parking garage. Our design included new combined storm/sanitary sewers along with the extension of a public watermain.
Due to aging existing utility infrastructure, the design of the new utilities presented challenging constraints. Only limited information on utility locations was available; this limited our options for utility connections. By working with the City and site contractor to determine optimum locations for utility connections, a solution was reached to provide service to the project with minimal disruption to the surrounding area. In addition to the design of site utilities, Fisher Associates prepared a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and designed permanent water quality measures to meet regulatory requirements.
