City of Lockport Parking Garage - Non-destructive Testing (NDT) Evaluation

Fisher Associates performed in-depth inspection and testing of prestressed concrete framing and deck slabs for the municipal parking garage. Inspection included visual and hammer sounding, along with spot Impact-Echo testing for evaluation of the extent of deterioration of the Prestressed concrete T-beams, Precast concrete columns, and precast concrete spandrel beams. Inspection also included visual cataloging of cracks, spalls, and exposed reinforcement of all precast elements.

A condition report with the results of the testing was prepared and included in the overall Design Report prepared by the Prime. The testing was critical to provide an assessment of the structural supporting elements for repair to keep the parking garage functioning for the City. The only other alternative to repair was demolition and replacement, at a much greater cost. Repairs included replacement of joints, concrete removal and replacement, and Vacuum Injection of epoxy material to cracks in beams and columns.
