Got Concrete, Need Repairs?

If so, you need a consultant experienced with the condition survey, testing and evaluation of reinforced concrete structures. Fisher Associates performs non-destructive testing to determine the extent of deterioration and to identify which repair technique is warranted.

Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a cost-effective way to determine the extent of damage or defective construction. It can provide detailed information not obtainable from visual inspection or invasive sampling. Testing will map out the location, depth, and size of cracks, voids, delaminations, and other flaws. It is especially useful in evaluating structures such as parking structures, bridges, buildings, tunnels, and retaining walls.

The principal method to provide non-destructive testing utilizes impact-echo and impulse-response, although other testing methods are also available. Properly managed, this approach typically costs less than a more traditional investigative approach (utilizing concrete cores) and results in a clearer definition of the problem. Some of the applications include:

  • Concrete quality control testing for consolidation, voids and crack definition.
  • Evaluating the structural integrity of buildings, bridges, and other structures.
  • Assessing the integrity of pavements, slabs-on-grade, and the subgrade materials that support them.
  • Assessing the condition of deep foundations and driven piles.

Of course, concrete testing utilizing traditional methods is also valuable, and can be used to supplement NDT to help determine the physical characteristics of the concrete. We coordinate laboratory testing for compressive strength, chloride and petrographic analyses, alkali aggregate reaction (AAR) and alkali silica reaction (ASR) tests.

Once the magnitude and mechanism causing concrete deterioration is known, we can determine the best course of action to further evaluate and rehabilitate your structure. This can include concrete removal and replacement, the use of epoxy crack injection techniques such as vacuum injection technology to inject resin into the deep voids and micro-cracks, and cathodic protection.
